Pompeii archaeological excavations, as well as Ercolano, Stabia and Oplonti, can easily be reached from Ravello. The excavations brought to light the ruins of the ancient city of Pompeii, which was buried under ashes and lapilli after the Vesuvio eruption in the year 79.

In 1997, in order to preserve their integrity, the Pompeii ruins, Ercolano and Oplonti archeological sites, managed by the Pompeii Archeological Park, became part of UNESCO’s list of humanity intagible cultural heritage.  On request, it is possible to arrange a half-day or a full-day guided tour in one of those archeological sites.
